Vassiliki Anastassiadou: Cyprus will be Included in Major Road Projects Funded by the EU

Cyprus will be included in the EU funding scheme for major road projects in the upcoming planning period 2021-2027, Minister of Transport, Communications and Public Works Vassiliki Anastassiadou, said speaking to the Press And Information Office (PIO) after the conclusion of the marathon Transport Ministers Council and just before the start of the telecoms meeting this morning in Brussels.

The road funding project is of course part of the next multiannual financial framework (2021-27), for which discussions continue between the Council and the European Parliament, on the basis of a Commission proposal, the Cyprus News Agency. On this subject today, Commissioner Oettinger asked the Heads of State and Government to give "final political guidance" at the upcoming EU Summit.

The Minister explained that “Connecting Europe” is the project that finances infrastructure, road transport, telecommunications and energy projects. Cyprus was not initially included, but "this was finally made possible, after coordinated efforts of the Ministry of Transport".
