Marathon season in Cyprus

If you’re one of the fabulously fit, you’ve no doubt been looking forward to this weekend for a while now, jumping out of bed at six each day for a quick sprint to Troodos and back before work. However, while the rest of us mere mortals are unlikely to be joining you in your quest (surely parking more than 10 metres from Starbucks constitutes a workout?) we’re looking forward to supporting you as you start your season…

Over the next few weeks, marathons, half-marathons and fun runs abound; but there are two which stand out. The first takes place this coming weekend: a 20-year-old race that takes in some of the most sensational scenery in the country. While registration has now closed (phew!) organisers have faithfully promised the thousand-plus participants that there will be cheering spectators en route. So if you’re looking for a colourful day out in the Paphos region, why not add your family to the crowd of supporters at the Logicom Cyprus Marathon?

Taking place in honour of Paphos-born Stelios Kyriakides, winner of the 1946 Boston Marathon and a tireless advocate of youth athletics, the Logicom Cyprus Marathon sees four races all set on the same day, March 4. The main event is, of course, the Marathon – a race which drew 2,000 competitors in 2017 and, according to race director Stavros Kakourides, will see 2,700 taking part this year.
