Larnaca Three new beaches in the Green Beaches program

March 29, 2018

Three new organized beaches have been selected by the Tourism Development and Larnaca Promotion Company (ETPAP) to join the "Green Beaches" program.

In its spring newsletter, Larnaca's ETAP reports that "the three beaches are located in Ormidia, Alaminos and Zygi and have been selected for inclusion in the" Green Beaches "program. This is a European program run under the umbrella of the MITOMED initiative. The program for the implementation of the program in Cyprus is the Larnaca Development Company, which in cooperation with Fusion Asset Recovery Ltd will start in May to groom the three beaches ".

According to the report, "the goal of the eco-friendly program is to create more sustainable and attractive beaches. Landscaping includes planting endemic plants that are consistent with coastal conditions, placing ecologically friendly signs, placing ashtrays and baskets, and creating footpaths in sand made of wood. The project will continue with wooden sunbeds and umbrellas, also wooden constructions for sanitary facilities, showers, changing rooms and facilities for people with disabilities ".

It is noted that "the criteria for a" Green Beach "are the quality of seawater and sand, ecological facilities and ecological means of transport, the noisy noise, the offer of local dishes and beverages, the furnishing of the beach, its planting, environmental information and eco-labels ".

It is reminded that "the first" Green Beach "in Larnaca was the Giannades coast in Oroklini, which was inaugurated in June 2014. On the beach of Oroklini, 950 endemic plants were planted along the coastal pedestrian street, mainly ropes and arodaphne, while recycling bins were created bicycle parking places and traditional clay cushions.
