Tertiary education is getting bigger and better, President Nicos Anastasiades said on Monday, addressing the 25th assembly of university rectors.
“We support in every way upgrading the operation of higher education institutions, including infrastructure and the programmes of studies they offer,” he said.
In particular, he reported that of the 32,000 students attending higher education institutions in Cyprus during the academic year 2012-2013, 8,000 were from other countries, while in the academic year 2017-2018 the total number of students rose to 48,000 of which 24,000 came from abroad.
He highlighted the quality of local universities, which is evident from high rankings by international surveys and the implementation of large-scale research projects through highly competitive processes.
He also welcomed the greater cooperation between universities, mentioning the establishment of a consortium of university libraries and interconnected offices, stressing that the multiple benefits including the very positive impact on students.
