January 23, 2017
The ‘HolidayCheck Award 2017’ list was announced at the beginning of January revealing the top rated hotels in Cyprus, with four out of the eight located in the south Famagusta region.
Hotels in the region took the first five spots (with the exception of second place, which goes to Club Aldiana in Larnaca).
Napa Mermaid Hotel & Suites in Ayia Napa was ranked first, with Crystal Springs in Protaras taking third position, followed by Ayia Napa’s Nissi Beach Resort and the Asterias Beach Hotel taking forth and fifth place respectively, with Kermia Beach Hotel in eighth place.
Sixth place went to Sentido Sandy Beach in Larnaca.
Going for gold
In addition to their ranking on the best hotels in Cyprus list, three of the four Ayia Napa hotels have also received the new Gold Award – an accolade given to hotels that have made the best list for five or more years in a row.
Napa Mermaid Hotel & Suites, Nissi Beach Resort and Asterias Beach Hotel all received the Gold Award for 2017 – testament to their consistently high standards and guest satisfaction, as per positive reviews on HolidayCheck.com year after year.
Protaras top hotel
The Crystal Springs Beach Hotel is once again the only Protaras hotel to have made the list and continues to cement its popularity with visitors worldwide.
Aside from recognition through the HolidayCheck list, various other travel review sites also commend the hotel, including Trip Advisor, where it ranks in the top five out of 70 hotels listed in the Paralimni/Protaras area – again based on guest reviews.
And it is these awards from guest review sites that the hotel strives for, as a representative of Crystal Springs explains: “It is a great honour for us to again feature as the only hotel in Protaras on the HolidayCheck best hotels list because the list is based on reviews from our own guests, and their opinion is the one that matters most to us.”
“We are always encouraged to see that guests not only enjoy their stay enough to share their positive experiences, but also choose to visit us year after year.”
The hotel has seen extensive renovations and updates in the last seven years and makes the most of its location overlooking Vrisoudia Bay – a beautiful sandy beach that is accessed mainly by its guests – as well as promoting its status as family-friendly: “We have worked very hard to create a piece of holiday paradise that offers both families and young adults everything they need to enjoy their holiday in Protaras.”
The holding company of the hotel has also recently acquired its adjoining land of 15,000 square metres, and is examining different development options for its use.
The visitor hallmark of excellence
Founded in 1999, HolidayCheck is the largest independent travel portal in German-speaking countries, and has close to two million users and 10 million hotel reviews and traveller photographs.
For the 2017 awards – the site’s 12th – the selection was based on reviews made between December 1, 2015 and November 30, 2016. In order to qualify for best list consideration, hotel must amass at least 50 reviews from their guests during the 12-month period and secured a recommendation rating of at least 90%.
Further to meeting the first set of criteria, eligible hotels must also have been given at least five ‘suns’ by reviewers – an icon used by users of the site to rate various elements of hotels, such as location, accommodation, service and catering – from a scale of 1 – 6, with six indicating ‘very good’
Ongoing popularity
Whilst the south Famagusta region has always attracted high numbers of holidaymakers – thanks to having some of the island’s best beaches of powdery white sands and crystal-clear waters – the region soared even higher during the 2016 holiday season.
A number of factors saw the region at full capacity: holidaymakers avoiding other neighbouring tourist destinations due to security fears worked in south Famagusta’s favour, whilst initiatives by the municipalities to offer better facilities, as well as the announcement of major future projects, such as Ayia Napa Marina and Sotira’s first spa resort, helped bolster the reputation of the region as a premium holiday destination.
