Eurostat: How much are households spending on eating out?

In 2018, households in Cyprus spent 9.1% of their consumption expenditure on catering services such as restaurants, cafés, canteens, and the like, according to figures issued by Eurostat.

This is the seventh highest in the EU28 and above the EU28 average of 7%.

Eurostat said that in 2018,  households in the European Union (EU) spent over €600 bn (equivalent to 3.8% of EU GDP) on ‘catering services’. The estimate for Cyprus is €1.3 billion, equivalent to 6.5% of GDP.
