A year since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, there is a general consensus worldwide that the retail trade landscape has changed. The introduction of restrictive measures has allowed technology to infiltrate the traditional business model, altering its structure and procedures, while simultaneously creating new trends. In the face of the need to implement social distancing, in-person experiences made way for contactless (touch-free) transactions and online shopping, prompting every company operating in the industry to speed up their digital transformation.
Admittedly, the retail trade’s transition into the digital era in Cyprus, is led by Alphamega Hypermarkets and its consistent introduction of innovation to the market. Cyprus’ largest hypermarket chain had installed self-checkouts way before the outbreak of the pandemic, while, during the pandemic, it made great strides in its digital transformation.
